With new exciting opportunities on the horizon and the business expanding fast, Farnborough International is looking to strengthen its world class team by recruiting an experienced Sales Executive for a 16 month period to work closely with the event leader to specifically deliver sales targets for the Public Airshow (PAS) at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA).

The public airshow takes place over the final weekend of the event and attracts around 80,000 members of the public and in 2016 100 exhibitors joined us for the weekend.  The participating exhibitors vary from major international brands to small independent retailers.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Public Airshow, you will be responsible for attracting new brands/retailers and winning new business, as well as achieving up-selling opportunities from trade show participants. You will be targeting larger companies and mainstream brands, as well as smaller businesses and previous exhibitors, therefore experience and confidence selling to Senior Marketers and Company Directors is a must!

Your primary responsibilities will include;

  • Responsibility for the sales operation for PAS; contacting exhibitors from 2016, as well as making contact with new prospects
  • Managing an existing database and maintaining exhibitors records on the CRM system
  • Dealing with existing and prospective customer enquiries face to face, over the phone or via email; ensuring efficient responses and providing as much assistance as possible
  • Identifying new prospective mid-range sponsors and writing proposals, as appropriate
  • Ownership of the exhibitor cross-selling programme and delivering set targets
  • Achieving all revenue targets and objectives in line with the budget set
  • Reporting business trends and area performance, and developing a full understanding of the market place
  • Meeting and greeting exhibitors when they arrive on-site

You will be identifying and attending relevant events to target prospective exhibitors, which will involve weekend work and travel outside the UK and, if appropriate, overseas.

The Role

Reporting to the Sales Manager, and working as part an established Sales team, you will be responsible for  attracting and winning new business, as well as achieving up-selling opportunities. Working at all times with the CRM system and E-net to administer applications received and deliver client handling.

Your primary responsibilities will include;

  • Driving the exhibitor sales operation to include maintaining contact, following and closing sales leads
  • Owning the exhibitor up-selling programme and delivering the targets set
  • Delivering new business targets including the delivery of emerging sectors
  • Responding to exhibitors and potential exhibitors efficiently, ensuring as much assistance as possible is given with their applications
  • Maintaining exhibitors’ records on the database and producing invoices where appropriate
  • Proactively assisting in gathering the E-net information required for exhibitors and advising if the system requires updating
  • Co-ordinating acknowledgements to exhibitors once applications are received and inputting onto CRM system
  • Processing and monitoring incoming applications
  • Managing the sales process for new prospects, from initial contact through to closure
  • Achieving all revenue targets & objectives in line with the allocated Business Plan and dedicated sector

The Role

The Operations Director’s primary responsibilities will include;

  • Ensuring all service providers are appropriately tendered and appointed
  • Developing KPI’s, SLA’s and benchmarks for staff and key official suppliers

  • Implementing a Preferred Supplier process to maximise revenue generation

Farnborough International expands venue Sales team

Farnborough International Ltd has announced the appointment of two new members of its venue sales team. Lucy Gibbons and Carlo Zoccali will join the Farnborough International team as Venue Account Manager and Venue Account Director respectively.

Lucy and Carlo will both report to Farnborough International’s Venue Director Michael Watton. The pair bring more than 20 years of sales experience to the expanding venue sales team who are looking to build a business pipeline for Farnborough International’s existing and future exhibition and conference venues.

Lucy joins from Birmingham’s International Convention Centre where she was Senior Account Manager and Carlo joins from Arsenal Football Club where he was Events Sales Manager for its venue and events business.

Farnborough International will launch a new, permanent state-of-the-art exhibition and conference centre in mid- 2018 on the site of the temporary Hall 1 building used during the biennial Farnborough International Airshow. Comprising 20,000 sqm of event space, the new structure will be flexible enough to cater for almost any kind of exhibition, conference, meeting, dinner or launch event. It measures up to 12,500sqm of exhibition space, 2,500 conference seats and fourteen multiple purpose-built function rooms.

Other duties include evaluating and reviewing pre and post-performance of event profitability, contributing to the cashflow process and supporting the month end, year end and audit processes.

This quarter Farnborough International continues to develop and roll out the Air Show’s program of health, safety and sustainability management, having successfully retained its ISO certification for the second year running back in February.

Ongoing development of process and procedure at Farnborough has become common place at the Hampshire based event organiser and venue and has been fine tuned further following the enforcement of CDM Regulations on the events industry in 2015.

But Farnborough is already looking to achieve more and would like your help. Please take a look at our abridged risk manual here and let us have your feedback. The document tells you about our governing principles, our purpose as an organisation, our management system framework, objectives and targets and describes our approach to a number of known hazards and impacts. We’d like to know what you think our priorities should be going forward and how you think we should go about achieving them and how you think our documentation measures up. We’d also like to know how you think we should communicate on these topics in the future. All of your comments will be greatly appreciated and treated in confidence.

NEW FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE CENTRE UNVEILED

Wednesday 11 May 2016: Farnborough International today unveiled details of the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre – a new event space at the home of aviation – scheduled to open in 2018.

The Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre is set to become the pre-eminent events venue in South East England, building on Farnborough’s firmly-established reputation as a business events destination and home to the most famous Airshow in the world.

Officially announcing the name, look and feel of the new venue for the first time, Farnborough International Chief Executive, Shaun Ormrod said; “This is a new and incredibly exciting phase in Farnborough’s long, pioneering history. We have already established the quality and reliability of the Farnborough Airshow experience in a permanent venue. Now we are ready to take it to the next level with a state-of-the-art new facility that reflects both our aviation heritage and our modernity at the same time. I am confident that Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre will become one of the foremost event venues not just in the UK but throughout the world.”

Ormrod unveiled a new logo design to be used consistently across Farnborough Internationals suite of event services which features an “airbridge” graphic inspired by Farnborough’s history of aerodynamics and the flow of air over aircraft wings.

Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre’s innovative building design also reflects the airbridge theme. Developed by the architects Terance O’Rourke, the look and feel of the structure draws heavily on Farnborough’s association with aircraft testing and development in Farnborough’s famous wind tunnels, as well as reflecting the modern-day look of local buildings such as the neighbouring Aviator hotel.

When complete, Farnborough’s new purpose-built event space will be flexible enough to cater for almost any kind of exhibition, conference, meeting, dinner or launch event thanks to 12,500sqm of exhibition space, 2,500 conference seats and fourteen multiple purpose-built function rooms.

Today’s announcement follows the successful securing of £30m in funding for the project and the recent appointment of Michael Watton as Farnborough International’s new Venue Director earlier this year. Watton will oversee the development and expansion of Farnborough’s event and venue business, including its existing and new event spaces.

Michael Watton said; “This part of the country has long been crying out for a large purpose-built event space with easy access to London, Gatwick and Heathrow. The flexibility and scale of our existing and new event space will make Farnborough attractive to any event organiser whether it’s a membership-based conference with exhibition space or a major exhibition with a requirement for seminar or workshop space. And with 2,500 hotel rooms now within a fifteen minute drive, Farnborough will be incredibly well placed to host regional, national and international events delivered with Airshow quality and a committed team.”

The Member of Parliament for Aldershot, Sir Gerald Howarth, said; “Farnborough International is the most renowned airshow in the world.  The people of Farnborough (the birthplace of British aviation) are proud to be associated with this event which brings benefit to the local economy, provides UK companies with an unrivalled showcase, and facilitates international trade to the worldwide aerospace and defence communities.  Investment in the newly planned Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre will further enhance the quality of the show when it next takes place in 2018.”

Farnborough International Ltd (FIL) has successfully delivered the fourth edition of the Bahrain International Airshow on behalf of the Kingdom of Bahrain confirming its expertise in bringing together world-class business events.

Acting as consultants to the Bahrain Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, FIL provide consultancy to the Kingdom and overseas the sales, marketing, aircraft participation and operations of the show. Led by FIL Commercial Director, Amanda Stainer, the bi-annual event has grown to become a leading Middle East aerospace event attracting over 30,000 trade visitors, 135 international companies and 100 aircraft participating in the static and flying display.

To mark her contribution to the on-going success of the show, Stainer received an award of honour for her services to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Presented to her by HM King Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Stainer said, “It is an absolute honour and a privilege to receive this award. Obviously it has been a complete team effort with everything we have done towards putting on the Bahrain International Airshow. It is not without my colleagues at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, the Civil Aviation Authority and of course the team at FIL that we bring about the successful show every two years.”

Now in its fourth edition, FIL has worked with the Kingdom of Bahrain since 2003 in developing the Bahrain International Airshow. Its expertise in bringing about the long-established Farnborough International Airshow made FIL the natural choice when the Kingdom was looking for a partner to create the show.

As well as a team of industry experts within the company, FIL has also drawn on a number of leading experts in the event and exhibitions industry including D2i Systems to manage exhibitor and visitor registration, City Neon for stand building and graphics, Times Group to produce the show daily, Mark Stewart Productions for video content and Steve Eastell for event photography.

Farnborough International has secured £30m funding to expand its existing event and venue business over the next three years at Farnborough’s 100,000sqm airfield site. Newly appointed Venue Director Michael Watton will be responsible for managing Farnborough International’s existing event venue business (Farnborough International Venue & Events) as well as overseeing the development of its new state of-the-art, multi-purpose 20,000sqm event space scheduled to open in Q3 2018. The new venue will attract international business events to Hampshire bringing significant revenue to the local economy.

Shoreham Airshow

Our deepest sympathies are with all those affected by Saturday’s terrible incident.

Air accidents that take place in the UK are subject to an investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Branch. Once their findings into Saturday’s incident at Shoreham are known we will be in a position to work with the authorities to implement any changes to our procedures.

Safety governs every aspect of the Farnborough International Airshow and we have put in place a number of measures that go beyond regulatory requirements. These measures remain under constant review to ensure confidence in the safety of our airshow.
